Good BeerFirst a general plug for Sunday nights at BB Rover's and the Jollyville City Limits/Austin Songwriter's Group open mic. Every Sunday BB Rover's and ASG  sponsor an open mic that starts at 7 and runs until there's nobaody left to play or closing, which ever comes first. It's a great way to get some stage time, work on new material or just hang out and have some beers and good food with other musicians. All rights to the content on this site are reserved.  OK, onto the music.

DJ Buffalo PhilBuster GutbucketSickMojo
A big thanks to the fine gentlemen shown above! Without the help of DJ Buffalo Phil on turntables, Buster Gutbucket on washtub bass, Sick on the freakiest fiddle ever and Mojo on harmonica, this CD would be what it is. Be sure to catch Buster Gutbusket and Friends every Tuesday night at BB Rovers. Looking for a gig? Stop by on a Tuesday night, Buster's always looking for new friends. Mojo has a cool open stage going at Club 115 also on Tuesday nights. DJ Buffalo Phil plays in another band called Thulsa Doom. Very cool stuff!

Saving the best for last, don't miss Sicks Pack, That Damned Band and/or the many other fine working bands that like to include the best damn fiddle player and musician extraordiare that Bourland has ever had the pleasure to meet. Yes ladies and gentlemen, I'm talking about SICK!

Alrighty then back to the Bourland music anthology.

Music from the soundtrack to Barefoot On Broken Dreams
Bourland produced a full length feature film called Barefoot on Broken Dreams in 1999/2000, written and directed by the most fabulous, most groovy Paul Crosby. The soundtrack was recorded live in Bourland's home studio with Paul Crosby, Mark Maynard  and Bourland. Then Johnny Santos came over and added his additional guitar tracks in one take, having never heard or played with the music. He played through each song once, then we recorded, amazing! Nobody makes an electric guitar sound like Johnny Santos. Thanks Johnny! The music for this recoding evolved from several jam sessions with Mark, Paul and Bourland that eventually turned into the band Romancing Medusa.

Romancing MedusaMusic from Bourland's last band, Romancing Medusa.
Romancing Medusa started rehearsing and performing live in the spring of 1999. The band lasted all of about 8 months. After failing to be selected for SXSW 2000, Maynard quit. The movie, Barefoot on Broken Dreams, was more true of Bourland's creative life than he knew at the time. The movie was a disaster, but that's long story that will soon be told, but not now. Anyhoo, Romancing Medusa was the most fun Bourland ever had playing music. Here are a couple of songs from a demo recorded at Bourland's home studio (equipment provided courtesy of Mark Maynard). All songs written by Paul Crosby.
Suite Sunshine: Ronna Braselton-vocals, Bourland-guitar, Mark Maynard-drums; Paul Crosby-bass
Did You See Her Lonely: Ronna Braselton-vocals, Bourland-guitar, Mark Maynard-drums; Paul Crosby-bass

The Texas pHilistinesMusic from Bourland's band, The Texas Philistines
The Texas Philistines were originally from Gatesville, Texas. In 1992 they began looking for a new guitarist here in Austin, Texas. Paul Crosby and Clint Caldwell ran an ad in the Austin Chronicle's musicians referal. The ad read something to the effect of The Texas Philistines are looking for a cow punk guitar player. Bourland replied, auditioned and got the job. The band consisted of Clint Caldwell-drums, Bourland-guitar & Paul Crosby-bass and vocals. Bourland only recorded one album with The Texas Philistines called Honky Tonk Sabbath, recorded in Mark Maynard's home studio. Here are two individual songs as well as the entire album in its original form. More MP3's coming soon.
